Two French ICT SMES are looking for 3 partners for an FP7 project to develop an innovative, hardware accelerated, video based movement-tracking solution, which supports and combines multiple algorithms (one or more cameras), to be used with or without markers.

HARVIT : Hardware Accelerated, Real time, Video Image based, motion Tracking
The HARVIT project will be submitted to the next "for the benefit of SME" call (FP7-SME-2009-1).

This project aims at developing a novel movement tracking system by carrying out real-time image processing through the hardware capture device.

The main objectives are to define a complete solution, which will provide a general answer to most of the tracking demands, using redefined algorithms on dedicated hardware. The hardware acceleration of this solution will allow to process the data in real-time (real-time for video is 50 fps). The combination of algorithms will provide an accurate result and a higher stability with unprecedented performance. The all in one turnkey tracking solution will provide a unique answer for most of the movement tracking demand.

All these algorithms will use the same sub-systems for image enhancements / filtering, chromakey, edge detection and data filtering.

In this project, the partners will try to select the algorithms to redevelop with caring of the hardware approach selecting first the algorithm which can take advantage of the massively parallel considered architecture based on FPGAs.

This kind of algorithms working real-time on a hardware platform will be a real technological prowess witch will open the whole market of movement tracking like sport, broadcast, industries.

Key innovations are:
• Multiple, combinable or concurrent algorithms.
• Evolutive, versatile, massively parallel, reliable hardware.
• Reusable subsystem for data & picture filtering
The combination of algorithms will provide an accurate result and a higher stability with unprecedented performance.

Project proposal for the "for the benefit of SME call" (FP7-SME-2009-1), submission deadline is the 3d of December.

The HARVIT project is set-up by 2 French SMEs, one being a participant SME and coordinator, the other one being one of the RDT performers. 2 other participant SMEs are sought, as well as a second RDT performer.

Parnter 1 : SME
- Expertise : none, but already using movement tracking techniques for its activity/products/services.
- field of activity: Any field that needs the use of 3D real time movement tracking applications and to develop new product/services based on this new technology.
- Role : R&D request and management , implementation of R&D results.

Partner 2 : SME
- Expertise : none, but already using movement tracking techniques for its activity/products/services.
- field of activity: Any field that needs the use of 3D real time movement tracking applications and to develop new product/services based on this new technology. The field of activity of partner 2 will be different of partner 1!
- Role : R&D request and management , implementation of R&D results.

Partner 3: RDT supplier
- Expertise : FPGA board development / mathematical tracking algorithm.
- Role : perform R&D according to SME partners’ needs, hardware or software development.

The project porposal is under development, but already quite mature. The expected duration is 24 months.
